Out on November 3rd via the ever brilliant Ninja Tune imprint comes a new double sided single from Actress (Darren Cunningham), and the next instalment in his ‘LXXXVIII’ album, with a chess inspired “Its Me ( g 8 ) / Oway ( f 7), and follows on from his recent ‘Push Power ( a 1 ) and ‘Game Over ( e 1 ), which signals either end of the aforementioned chess match.
It’s me ( g 8 ) has this beautiful space about it, created with this repetition e bass/keys line which shuffles its way into your consciousness, with these cut up vocals and electronic crackle hitting you straight in the feels, it’s a fantastic piece of head nodding electronica.
Oway ( f 7 j sees Cunningham in more experimental mode, the moody, after bourse club feel made more prevalent with obscured basslines and and woozy electronics, with the clarity coming from this occasional piano which plays across the beats and only adds to the haziness.
Brilliant stuff.
