French duo and blackgaze pioneers Alcest are sharing an acoustic version of their track ‘Protection’ which they released last year taken from their album Spiritual Instinct via Nuclear Blast.
This is a track all about feeling and atmosphere. A single clean guitar picks out a minor key melody before beefing up with some chords. The duo slowly build upon and twist the main theme throughout the track and bring in a second guitar to add some texture. The intensity of the original is replaced with a huge amount of space. What was once chaos is now beautiful stripped to the bare bones and testament to the talent behind the notes.
