After the long-awaited announcement of new album Fragments, Bonobo (aka Simon Green) has released single Tides featuring Chicago singer, songwriter and poet, Jamila Woods. Bonobo will also be headlining 3 live shows at Royal Albert Hall, on top of other UK dates as part of a world tour in May 2022 (full dates below).

For most of his career Green has been a thriving artist in motion, criss-crossing the globe to perform.  With the events of the past two years forming a temporary creative block for Green, he worked over the course of 2020 and 2021 to craft what would become the new album.  At a time when the album was still far from completion, Green received a vocal recording from Jamila Woods. He listened to the recording, late one night in his studio, and immediately knew he was experiencing a magical moment in discovering what became the catalyst for the album.

The track has an irresistible deep groove, with Woods’ strong vocals and a beautiful string-laden outro by Miguel Atwood-Ferguson.  It ties seamlessly into ‘Fragments’’ prevalent themes of nature and the elements; representing a figurative changing of the tides.

Says Woods of the track: “I’m really excited to be a part of Bonobo’s project. I connected with the track as soon as I heard it. It felt like rain and waves to me before I even knew the project had a theme of cycles and tides, so it all came together very organically.”

“When I first heard Jamila’s vocal she had recorded I knew instantly I had a centrepiece for the album. Lyrically it captured everything the project was about. This track was a real turning point in the process of finishing the album and Miguel Atwood-Ferguson’s incredible string parts at the end brought the whole thing to another level.” – Bonobo

Fragments also features Joji, Kadhja Bonet, Jordan Rakei and O’Flynn.  Born first out of fragments of ideas and experimentation, the album ultimately was fused together in a burst of creativity fueled by both collaboration and Green’s escape into the wild. One of the biggest names in dance music, Green’s career includes 3 Grammy nominations and 2 million fans attending the tour to support his 2017 album Migration. ‘Migration’ also reached #1 on Billboard’s Dance album chart and hit Top Ten positions in several countries, including a Top 5 at home in the UK.  He’s also a favourite mainstage performer at the world’s greatest music festivals.
