The most isolated capital in the world, Boorloo/Perth has always been a fertile petrie dish for musical talent, and the debut single ‘Had Your Fun’ from ALEIA is a case in point.
Delivered over gently dappling piano and a pattering syncopated percussion, ALEIA’s vocals are soft and ethereal, soaked in an aching melancholia and indelible melody, a slight soul/jazz tint amongst the indie pop sound. Think of something from Lorde or Billie Eilish with its inherent pop sensibilities. The themes deal with the toxicity of a past relationship and the emotions bleed through every note:
