Iconic guitarist, producer and composer Cam Butler (Ron S Peno & the Superstitions) follows up from his recent single ‘Clear Infinity’ (reviewed by me here) with the haunting atmospheric ‘The Warning’.
In contrast to the previous single, ‘The Warning’ is sombre, dramatic, like a soundtrack to either a horror movie or a New Zealand-based fantasy epic. Strings haunt the ether and soaring organs provide a swirling backdrop. Then there’s an ominous thrum like thunderclouds in the distance, all dramatic landscapes, mountains and wilderness.
It is a track with two moods – a haunting sombre opening which transforms to something gothic and dark.
The track comes with a suitably moody video, filmed by Hayley Rose. Butler says of the track and the video:
‘The Warning’, the third track from World Forever, is a epic piece of music with two distinct halves; a dark, mysterious and lyrical first half and a second half with a huge, ever increasing crescendo with the entire orchestra. Haley Rose’s vision for The Warning video clip is perfect – deep and dramatic and, at the same time, perfectly mirroring the intense emotion of the music.
It’s a perfect accompaniment:
Another lovely taste of the forthcoming album ‘World Forever’, out on Friday, 26 May through Heavy Machinery Records.
There will be a limited pressing of 300 copies of the new album available on ultramarine blue vinyl – you can pre order it here and through the link below.
Butler will be launching the album with a free concert in Melbourne on 22 May 2026 at the Melbourne Town Hall complete with the starring Grand Organ that features in the album.
Butler has had a prodigious career having his work played on Australian and French television. As a guitarist, he has collaborated with Melbourne musicians such as Angie Hart, Hugo Race, Ned Collette, Roller One and Charlie Marshall. In 1998, Cam founded the three-piece instrumental band, Silver Ray, who were active until 2008. From 2010, Butler worked as a guitarist, co-songwriter and producer with Australian musical legend, ex Died Pretty singer, the late Ron S. Peno, forming the band, Ron S. Peno and The Superstitions.
