Track: Cowtown release the scuffed up beauty of endearing new single Can’t Talk Now

Ah, Cowtown are back, and they’re strutting into the spotlight with their latest single, “Can’t Talk Now.” This track proves these Leeds scamps can handle the glitz and glam of attention just as deftly as they thrive on the frayed edges of music.

Driven by angular guitars that could scuff any musical shoe, this art rock gem is as sharp as your proverbial tack. But, whatever the credentials —what really sticks is that chorus. It’s catchier than a yawn in a staff meeting. Once it grabs you, good luck trying to shake it loose. It’s like an ethereal Remains in Light era David Byrne is looking down and smiling upon them.

According to the band, “Can’t Talk Now” is a commentary on post-pandemic behavior. You know, all those quirks and oddities that emerged when we had to re-enter the real world after lockdown? Cowtown muses on society’s stubborn refusal to adapt, all while keeping us on the end of their musical string.

If you’ve been missing Cowtown’s unique brand of musical mischief, this single is the perfect teaser for their upcoming album, Fear Of…. (Out May 31st via Gringo Records) After an eight-year hiatus, they’ve clearly been honing their craft. So, get ready to dance, laugh, and ponder the absurdities of life—welcome back.
