Floating on a bed of capital letter free cotton wool and air, the single ‘love you’ from Meanjin/Brisbane artist fhae is an ambient waft of rosy delight: atmospheric and enigmatic, subtle and mysterious. Built on guitars and a range of sounds and noises, this has the dreamy fugue of something by Sigur Ros.

fhae is the nom de plume of ambient artist Ellena Ramsay (sister of another Backseat Mafia favourite Amber Ramsay from Cloud Tangle). Ramsay says of the track:

I have always really liked creative, low budget music set ups and trying to create an organic orchestral sound was very difficult. I ended up using an old guitar-to-computer dongle and I was inspired by Jónsi’s use of a bow on his electric guitar. I haven’t quite mastered the violin but I love the depth you can create on stringed instruments.

Ramsay’s vice is dreamy soft, reverberated and celestial – dripping with melancholy and tristesse, drifting and floating above a drone of strings and synths. It’s haunting and bold material.

The artwork for the release was created by Ramsay using lino ink and etch work.

The track is available to download and stream here and through the link below. fhae has signed to the illustrious 4000 Records, joining a coterie of magnificence.

‘love you’ is being launched on Saturday, 3 December with a spectacular line up including the brilliant Aren’t – details below and tickets available here.
