The multitalented Kat Greta – an artist we have been privileged to follow closely since premiering her debut video back in 2022, is back with a new track entitled ‘Summer Daze’. Like a much needed dose of melatonin in the deepest darkest winter, ‘Summer Daze’ positively radiates medicinal sunshine with its Burt Bacharach melodic swing propelled by blasting horns and a sixties beat so infectious there should be a government health warning attached.

Greta says the track is deeply personal:

I feel like I’m sharing my most authentic self in this song. Recreating the essence of the ‘60s in a new way was a challenge—it’s not the kind of song that people would expect to hear these days. This song is my love letter to the Australian summer, but it’s also about holding on to the things that matter, especially as I navigate my own cultural identity. As both of my parents are unwell and I’ve lost close family members recently, I’ve been reflecting a lot on what it means to preserve traditions, memories, and the feeling of belonging. This song is my attempt to honour those pieces of myself—my Italian heritage and my connection to Australia—while embracing change.

There is indeed a cathartic swing to the track, bright and vivacious and filled with a certain optimism. Greta paints a picture of a deep seated geographical connection to Australia – an almost bucolic, nostalgic view of the past tempered by a sobering sense of reality:

The Australian summer has always been a part of my identity—beach days, family gatherings, sunsets, and the warmth that comes with it. It’s a reminder of the simplicity and beauty of our traditions. But, as we know, traditions can be fleeting. This song is about cherishing what makes Australia so unique, and finding joy in the moments we can hold on to—especially in the face of change.

It’s certainly a luminescent blast to the end of the week and a much need shot of joy when all else is dark.

The accompanying music video, directed by Dayne Edward, brings the song’s playful energy to life. Filmed at the iconic Mt Martha beach boxes, the video features a quirky twist with cloned versions of Greta performing multiple roles.

We wanted to capture the colour and essence of the Australian summer, and the beach boxes were the perfect setting. The video takes the viewer on a journey, just like the song, reflecting how special and unique this culture is.

Put your sunglasses on and enjoy:

‘Summer Daze’ is out now and can be downloaded and streamed here.
