Melbourne-based Sarah Mary Chadwick has just released the title track ‘Flipped It’ (via Kill Rock Stars) off her new EP. The new track is also accompanied by an insightful new video.

Chadwick is originally from New Zealand and fronted the band Batrider, prior to forging a career as a solo artist. Her music is intimate and honest, as she shares her thoughts on love, death and mental health. Chadwick has said of ‘Flipped It’, “I feel like someone’s ripping off my wallpaper inside, making piles of shredded memories that flit across my eyes.”

The song is a piano-based ballad with Chadwick’s revealing lyrics delivering goose bump moments.

The short video for the song was directed by Stephanie Jane Day, who filmed Chadwick performing ‘Only Bad Memories Last’ at the Phoenix Central Park. Day has spoken about how she worked with Chadwick’s “trademark irreverence” and how the video juxtaposes the luxury of Chadwick spending time at a beach setting with her self-flagellation.

I’m so grateful to have been able to work with Sarah on this from the first message Sarah sent me about it to now, it’s been something that’s brought me joy every day since starting work on it. I hope it reaches others in the same way.
