Sunflower Bean announce their new album and share the life-affirming power-pop of new single ‘Crisis Fest’.

Sunflower Bean have announced the release of their second album ‘Twentytwo in Blue’ (released on 23 March via Lucky Number), which will come out when all three members of the New York band will be 22 years old – and almost two years and two months after their debut ‘Human Ceremony’.

To celebrate, the trio – Julia Cumming, Jacob Faber and Nick Kivlen – are following up ‘I Was A Fool’ (watch the video below) with second single ‘Crisis Fest’. They will also be coming to the UK the day after the album is released (tour dates below).

“This last year was extremely alarming, traumatic, and politically volatile,” explains the band about the track. “While writing this album, we often reflected back on the people we met while on tour. We felt a strong kinship with the audiences that came to see us all over the country, and we wanted to write a song for them – something to capture the anxieties of an uncertain future. ‘Crisis Fest’ is less about politics and more about the power of us, the young people in this country.”

Whereas the summer shimmer of ‘I Was A Fool’ sounds like Fleetwood Mac at their dreamiest, ‘Crisis Fest’ reminds me of Ex Hex at their fiery best. Importantly, both songs allow Cumming’s stunning vocals to shine.

“We brought you into this place, you know we can take you out” Cumming threatens on ‘Crisis Fest’. In a turbulent world, her conviction provides comfort. So don’t let the name fool you – ‘Crisis Fest’ is a catchy celebration of people power at the start of another uncertain year.
