After two decades of near silence, Sunk Loto have returned to with their first new music since the early 2000s. Their latest release, ‘The Gallows Wait,’ signalled the band’s rebirth, and now, nearly a year later, they are pushing boundaries once more with their newest track, ‘God Complex’—one of the heaviest and most unrelenting pieces in their career.

From the opening notes, ‘God Complex’ tears through any expectation of a mellow return. The track is an assault of searing guitar riffs, relentless drums, and basslines that feel equally unhinged. Jason Brown, the band’s frontman, alternates between clean, melodic vocals and brutal screams, amplifying the intensity of the piece in a way that echoes the band’s earlier work, but with a newfound precision and power.

“2024 has not been without its challenges for us working to get music out to our fans, but we are extremely excited to be on the other side of that now starting with finally releasing our new song God Complex. This one sees us throwing down with some of the heaviest sounds we’ve ever done and shows the best of what we do wrapped up in one song. We know we made you wait a while for this but we’re sure it’s going to be worth it.” – Sunk Loto

Produced by Forrester Savell, with engineering by Luke Palmer, God Complex isn’t just a comeback—it’s a statement. Time hasn’t dulled Sunk Loto’s edge; instead, it has refined their sound. Their sonic aggression, tempered by years of experience, feels sharper and more focused than ever, suggesting that this may only be the beginning of a new era for the band.

Sunk Loto burst onto the scene as teenagers, touring with heavyweights like Korn, Linkin Park, and A Perfect Circle, and making waves at major festivals like Big Day Out and Vans Warped Tour. They quickly became a defining force in Australian metal, carving out their place in the genre alongside global icons while still too young to order a drink.

Their unexpected return proved that time away hadn’t dulled their intensity. Selling out shows across Australia, the band reconnected with their audience in a way that felt less like nostalgia and more like unfinished business. In a scene they helped shape, Sunk Loto’s influence on the modern Australian heavy music renaissance is undeniable. As they move forward, it’s clear they are far from done, and their best work may still lie ahead.
