Out right now digitally via the ever brilliant Heavenly Recordings is a brand new track from doom surf/psych outfit The Wytches. Or more specifically, two versions of the same song. About the track, lead singer Kristian explains, “We recorded the track a few months ago but felt it was quite different to the direction we’re going in with the writing for the next album so we thought it would make for an interesting Halloween special.”
The Sludge version opens with this unassuming acoustic riff that the whole song is based around. The vocals, male and female in octaves, blend with quiet authority over the top, while eerie guitar lines drip over the top. It’s more than a little beautiful, but always has that bubbling aggression in the background.
