You’ve probably latched onto the music of producer, composer, drummer and instrumentalist Oscar ‘SHOLTO’ Robertson, many times without ever knowing it. He was part of the indie/r&b leaning, Deltasonic-signed Hidden Charms who in 2015/16 looked set to break through on the back of a series of stomping singles and a spell in LA working with the legendary Shel Talmy (yes The Kinks and The Who etc).

Staying stateside Robertson moved onto work with producer Nick Waterhouse (Allah-Las) before a return to London which saw him, amongst other things, link up with Dave Bardon to form the nucleus of the soundscape makers Sunglasses For Jaws. Add to this collaborating with the influential neo-soul innovator Inflo (Kiwanuka, Little Simz, Sault, Cleo Sol…), drumming plus producing for Miles Kane and writing/playing with Dan Carey shout out Sinead O’Brien, and you get a hint of the level of Oscar Robertson’s creative energy.

And there’s more… since last year, he’s streamed a series of four tracks as SHOLTO (Twin Flames, Honey and Wine, Bash’s Theme and Paulette) which all stirred his heady influences into an irresistible mix of soul-tastic orchestral funk and jazz expansionism.

And there’s more…to mark the next turn in the SHOLTO story he’s signed to Root Records and announced the release of a new ep ‘The Changing Tides Of Dreams’, due November 10th.

And there’s more…to preview the ep comes the dramatic streaming-now single ‘Vampire’ which swoops in with a swirl of cosmic strings and synths then slides away to violin quivers and ghosting vocals. In between the intro and outro, the tune goes widescreen on a wave of John Barry full blown lushness breaking over some funky bassline locomotion. Hints of Axelrod and Andrew Hill, Blue Note and Barry Adamson make for some trailer… and there’s still more to come in November.
