Sydney singer-songwriter John Encarnação is a pillar of the indie music scene in Australia, known for his involvement in one of our favorite institutions The Nature Strip. Under the guise of Warmer, he has just released the hoedown jollity of ‘Pitchfork Barndance’: a boogie-woogie toe tapping slice of melodic chaos that exudes joy with an arched brow.
Encarnação admits the track is about as country as Warmer ever has, or is likely to (be) and features New Zealand producer Dave Carter with whom he has recorded five tracks in anticipation of a later release. In fact Carter provides the rough-hewn backing vocals that add a little barbed wire to the delivery. The Aotearoan connection continues with two top NZ musicians adding to the brew, drummer Ben Lemi (Vera Ellen, Trinity Roots etc) and double bassist Phoebe Johnson (Revulva).
The track comes with a video from The Nature Strip’s frequent collaborator Luke Bozzetto, who has crafted a film clip with his usual collaged chaos and humour.
The single is out now through the inimitable and legendary Half A Cow Records and available here and through the link below.
Warmer will be launching the single with Team Building at the Sydney institution the Petersham Bowling Club on Saturday 4th April. Tickets here.
