Rocafort Records are back with a volume two of some undiscovered / forgotten Latin gems from New York City. Taken from the period 1968-1972, the release comes as a beautifully boxed 3 x 7” box set, with liner notes from DJ Timber on the back cover, and features Orquesta Olivieri’s 1970 Delta single There’s No Other Girl / Los Muchachos De Belen, Ozzie Torrens And His Exciting Orchestra with an obscure 1968 Decca release Mia’s Boogaloo / Boogaloo in Apt. 41, and Ray Rivera’s Brooklyn Sounds with Ha Llegado El Momento (45 edit) / Guaguanco Tropical.

Olivieri’s Los Muchachos De Belen really swings, with trumpets flaring over the changes, while the smooth vocals wash over you and the Latin beat really pulls your hips along with it. In contrast, There’s No Other Girl is this beautiful Soul ballad over a Latin shuffle, full of emotion and sugared with backing vocals.

Ozzie Torrens Boogaloo’s are both gems, full of vibes tunes, driven along in the case of Mia’s Boogaloo into a real dancefloor draw, with fantastic drums and this trumpet solo that reaches into the stratosphere, with Boogaloo in Apt. 41 is more odd a sedate affair, but no less funky.

Ha Llegado El Momento provides something different with a Cuban Rumba on the menu, full of whirling trombones while Guaguanco Tropical splatters piano and percussion all over itself as it dances forward.

It out on August 28, 2020 – go grab yourselves one here https://rocafortrecords.bandcamp.com/album/latin-underground-revolution-vol-2-more-swinging-boogaloo-guaguanc-salsa-latin-soul-from-new-york-city-1968-1972
