Kaurna/Adelaide’s Oscar The Wild deliver a vibrant, expressive brand of indie pop, threaded through with a steely spine and soaring melodies. They have just released their new EP entitled ‘Blue’ and it’s a refreshing collection of guitar driven tracks that sparkle and pop.

Opening track ‘Roll with The Punches’ shines with an infectious pace and heavenly melody that recalls a harder version of Courtney Barnett along with delicate harmonies. It deals with a darker issue despite the brightness – according to Ruby Gazzola, it was written:

…around the time of the Bondi Junction attack, when violence against women was declared a ‘national emergency’. After a week the story left the news cycle, and the ‘issue’ was dropped.

‘Big Think’ has a driving wall of sound and passionate expression.

Final title track ‘Blue’ is delivered in an unabashed Australian accent with a spine tingling range and imbued with a melancholy blush carried by a thunderous rhythm section and yearning lyrics:.

To all that you do to make me feel
I’m not good enough for someone like you
Everything I’ve done to appease you
Has left me blue

The track ebbs and flows to a sudden halt, leaving you wanting more.

Oscar The Wild have delivered an assured collection of songs that deliciously bristles with attitude and panache – three thunderous tracks filled with melody and style based on themes dealing with the personal – love and loss.

You can download and stream the EP here and you can get a vinyl version here, in an LP format which includes earlier EP ‘She’ll Be Right’.

Oscar The Wild will be on tour to promote the EP – details below.
