After a stuttering stat – last night’s gig nearly didn’t go ahead as the bands ferry was delayed meaning they didn’t arrive to the venue till just shortly after 7pm, but with doors opening was put back to 8.30 pm and not the usual 7pm this meant much of the throng, missing the announcement by the venue on the socials, had queued from before 7pm. With no support this meant a lot of hanging around for many.

None of that seemed to dampen the crowds enthusiasm, and they fauned and cheered as the band emerged to ‘We Are Family’, with Jesse – sporting a green suit and Ghostbusters t-shirt, dancing around meeting the expectant audience. The Jacket was soon ditched as the band ripped the roof off the Academy with all members of the band owning the stage (like all good American rock bands should) with struts and air kicks. There was lots of handshakes and fist bumps for the front row members of the crowd in-between snogs alongside Jesse stating how much he loved us and that he was close to tears a number of times. He couldn’t praise the stage crew and staff of The Academy enough for how they managed to get the stage set up and band in so quickly, so the show could go ahead as close to planned time – stating a number of time that he wont forget it.

Stand out songs were, of course, Cherry Cola and The Boys Band News, although it was a close run thing as the crowd launched into singing along with as much gusto as the band did. Two song were dropped from the setlist due to time restraints, those being I Love You All The Time & Now Im A Fool (see setlist) with the band ending the main set with Moonage Daydream.

After a brief break with the crowd shouting one more song Jesse & Josh (resplendent in full Evil Kinevil outfit – including cape) appear back on stage to do a cover of Cant Help Falling In Love to which the crowd sung back word for word, after which a full compliment of EODM appeared back on stage to finish out with 3 more tracks. During the last one ‘Speaking in Tongues’ the was a guitar/ bass battle to see who could out play each other and the winner was Jennie, with Jesse bowing to her. And with a nod and a signature from Jesse on a French flag handed to him from the audience, the band exit, leaving us breathless and elated from a brilliant night out.

Irish based concert photographer, maybe! ever so slightly addicted to gigs. Listens mostly to alternative / goth / folk punk / punk / ska. I blame the 80s.
