Interpol bring their 20th Anniversary ‘Antics’ tour to UK shores and kick off with an iconic night in Wolverhampton.

A packed out venue, a crowd all chatting that they can’t believe ‘Antics’ is 20 years old is soon tuned into silence when the energetic Dust, from Newcastle, Australia take to the dimly lit stage to kick off tonights proceedings.

With the stage mainly in darkness except the few odd red lights, Dust battled a few sound issues to get the crowd jumping to their songs from debut album ‘Et Cetera, Etc’ leaving many in Wolverhampton finding a new band to add to their playlists.

Dust are supporting Interpol on all UK dates of this anniversary tour.

The venue was set for Interpol, the stage was now completely covered in a large curtain, and the band came out to play opening track from ‘Antics’ behind the curtain as silhouettes.

Despite not being able to see the band, the crowd sung along with the familiar opening track before the curtain was dropped half way through the second song of the album, and probably Interpol’s most known track – ‘Evil’

The crowd gave out a cheer as the band were revealed and continued to sing along word perfect with Interpol’s Paul and his distinctive voice.

New York’s finest have never been big talkers on stage, letting their music do the talking, the first we heard from the band was after 5 tracks and Paul greeted us with “We are Interpol, this is Antics”

Its always amazing to see how the crowds react different to the songs from the first album, each tracks holds special for each crowd member, but its clear to see from how collectively the crowd love tracks such as ‘Slow Hands’ as beers start flying and the crowd are jumping to a spectacular light show from the band.

After 45 minutes the album is done. The band depart and the venue is in darkness. Some people were leaving, some continue to sing along to tracks from the start of the show, before the band reemerge to go through a blistering encore of tracks from their excellent back catalogue.

Interpol have been a band I’ve always wanted to see live, and the ‘Antics’ album holds a special place in my heart, so on a personal level this show exceeding all expectations and you will not leave this tour feeling undersold!
