English pop band McFly are the headline band on the first date of the Sounds of the City series set to take place this summer at Millennium Square in Leeds. Along with the likes of Kasabian, Blossoms, Morrissey, Bastille, The Wombats, Shed Seven and Nile Rodgers feat CHIC, the summer series features a vast range of genres to accommodate everyone.

Supporting McFly tonight are English indie soul band Skinny Living, as well as British pop trio New Hope Club.

Formed in 2003, with the band name being influenced by Back to the Future, McFly is comprised of Danny Jones (vocals), Tom Fletcher (guitar), Dougie Poynter (bass) and Harry Judd (drums).

Following the release of their seventh studio album, Power to Play, which came out last month along with two sold out intimate gigs in Camden, McFly are set to play some shows across summer before embarking on their UK tour at the end of the year with the first date taking place on the 23rd October in Bristol.

In the segment between support acts finishing their set and McFly coming to stage, the crowd are treated to a host of singalong tracks ensuring everyone is more than warmed up ready for the main event with the likes of ‘Don’t Stop Believin’, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and even ‘Y.M.C.A’ featuring.

Opening the set with the first single from their new album ‘Where Did All the Guitars Go?’, sees the band come away from their previous pop elements and embrace an 80s rock sound. In addition to this, the band play other new tracks ‘Land of the Bees’, ‘God of Rock & Roll’, ‘Forever’s Not Enough’ and ‘Honey I’m Home’. Continuing to embrace their new 80s sound means it’s fitting that the band play a cover of an 80s song, choosing to cover the Springsteen hit ‘Dancing in the Dark’. The last section of the set sees the band return to their older music before ending on their biggest hit to date ‘5 Colours in Her Hair’.
