The Black Sea Carnys held the launch for their latest offering, the EP (more of a mini-album, in reality) Cultland at The Grand Poobah here in Hobart on Saturday evening.

As a follow-up to my EP review (here), I decided to go and listen to the band playing all of their new material at their launch night

A good crowd of faithful and highly-enthusiastic fans braved the cold and wet wintery conditions to see the band play a set which commenced with songs from their back-catalogue before moving on to a play-through of Cultland from start to finish.

The new songs from Cultland fit in extremely well with the band’s older material from previous EP, Nistar, adding quantity to the already well-established quality that The Black Sea Carnys possess in spades.

For those that may get to see them when they play in Victoria and New South Wales, there is plenty of band merchandise to be had, including a CD version of Cultland along with posters and stickers.

Earlier in the evening, Josh Santospirito brought his experimental, instrumental synthesizer work to be played between each of the bands’ sets, a great way to keep the entertainment flowing whilst the stage was being set up each time.

Geneslave, a young trio playing dark metal kicked off the bands for the evening, and were followed by post-punk trio, Liquid Nails. Both bands played great sets, whetting the appetite of the growing crowd.
