With their debut album in the works and due next year the band have shared the first taste with new single ‘Break From Life’, we thought it would be time to check in with the Brighton band and find out a little bit about them before they make even bigger waves in the music world.

Give us a potted history of the band

Public Body formed in Brighton back in 2018. With an urge to complain about totally boring things like work, werk, and werq. The line up has changed over the years but we have now reached our final form (we hope). Super excited to be releasing our debut album ‘Big Mess’ through Fat Cat records. A totally embarrassing record where I’m just taking the piss out of myself.

Who inspired you to start making music

It was when I got into Green Day as a kid, that’s when I wanted to start playing in a band.

And the one or maybe two records that inspired you artistically

The two records that made me want to start this band are

Uranium Club – All Them Naturals

Devo – Duty Now For the Future

I connected with the humour and just loved laughing at the stupidity. I personally can’t write music with real emotion, because I have no heart, just a poo in place of heart pumping total garbage through my body and brain. So this music just spoke to that poo in my chest <3

If you’re trying to explain whom you sound like to someone that’s never heard you, what do you say

Tbh I never answer this question very well, I usually just go awkward and say it has synths and fast drums. Lol leave me alone just go listen to it u geekazoid!

Tell us about your new single

Our new single is ‘Break From Life’ released on a tasty 7” through Fat Cat Records, this was all recorded and mixed at home using an 80’s Yamaha drum machine and a 70’s guitar amp from woolworths. The song is about thinking life is hard then kinda just sitting on idle and then hating being stuck in a rut, you’re wasting your time taking a needless break from life.

Where can we get hold of it

Through our bandcamp dumb dumbs!

Tell us how you write

I write all of it at home and then everyone learns it, changes it up and adds their little twist to it. but for this record I was a greedy pig and did it all myself because recording at a studio is boring and I get really gassy and cba to sit in a windowless room for a week and pay billions of pounds.

Tell us about your live show What would be your dream gig

Live shows recently have been great, a lot of the new record is faster and a bit heavier, so it’s been really fun to drink too much and go a bit more mental with that.

I don’t really have a dream gig or venue, but I really wanna go on tour with Egyptian Blue cus they’re just so fuckin sexy!

What can we expect from you in the near future

We’ve got our next single off the album coming out soon, synth heavy and will resonate with everyone who makes a cock out of themselves when they drink. We’ll also be hitting some new places in the UK in support of that and maybe even going to EU! Fingers crossed please!

Tell us your favourite records that’s rocking your headphones/tour bus/stereo
