London based DJ and producer Joe Ashworth, better known as simply Ashworth has been on the rise for the last 12 months or so which peaked with the release of his debut LP ‘Grain’, which dropped on needwant and recieved support from the likes of Joris Voorn, Groove Armada, Shadow Child and Citizenn.

His new ep, Braun is out on November 30th and is the inaugural release on Mia Dora’s new Posterboy Records imprint. Title track Braunis dark and anxious, but its propelled on by these icy cymbals and heavy beats. The bass dips it toe almost continually, and as it gradually unfurls, more synth lines and assorted atmospherics are added as it winds it brooding way onwards.

Plinth is harder, tripper as its similarly heavy kick basses and slithers of cymbal underpin these bubbling synth chords. Its edgy, minimal stuff as these added pads and gradually shifting tonality keep the interest. It continues to develop, morphing into a rubbery, elasticated bassline, and these ebbs and flows which merely add to the tension. The EP is completed with Lizard, built on this dark, stuttering bassline with these electronic whirrs and a spread of pads and percussion scattered over the back. The little shards of synth melody draws it into a warmer groove, but there’s still a sense of menace about it.
