Southampton three piece Band of Skulls follow on from their recent track Killer in offering a new insight into their forthcoming ‘By Default’ album (out 27th May) with a new single, So Good. It begins with echo soaked atmospherics before the vocal lands, and it turns out to be something of a surprise with bassist Emma Richardson promoted to lead vocals for the track. It ebbs and flows, restrained in the verse but smoothly accelerating into a bigger, sparkling chorus that’s accompanied by part funk guitar stylings, part brittle picking.
This could be one of the albums of the year.
Band of Skulls have announced a run of UK dates in support of ‘By Default’, playing a huge date at the Roundhouse in Camden on 26th October. It follows an already sold out night at the Electric Ballroom on 19th May.
