It’s maybe not the most obvious of places but Richmond in North Yorkshire is home to underground hip-hop collective Ceiling Demons, aka Psy Ceiling, Dan Demon and Beat Demon. Out last month was the Tom Robinson supported Amputated Spirit, backed by a previously unreleased b-side For The Love feat. Acts.
Amputated State lays down this emotive string loop, with a piano line dancing over the top and driven along by this rock beat. It held together with this brilliantly catchy hook, as each emcee goes through his verse showing admirable rhymes and cadences, telling stories and clever observations. Crucially, there’s no weak link, in style substance or delivery.
Flip side For the Love has smokey beats, ethereal vocals and similarly smart rhymes. Ceiling Demons are going places. Get on board.
