Sung with a beautiful honesty, ‘Someone Else’s War’ from Jess Barlow has quickly become one of my favourite songs of the year. On top of a simple and elegant musical construction, Jess’s voice presents the emotions behind the songs meaning and brings it all to life. It’s a song that expresses the inner emotions of a multitude of struggles in life and the desire to break free from those problems.

To come across a song like this that is so carefully crafted and brilliantly performed isn’t a frequent thing, and it makes it all stand out even more. The production of the song is great, but you can tell that at the core of the song, Jess is a musical talent that is able to express emotions with an incredible subtlety in her voice that makes the impact even more meaningful resulting in a sound and style that transcends the studio.

Fortunately there’s an EP on the way too. News on that is currently being kept tightly under wraps but as soon as we find out more I’ll be sure to share the news with you. But if this track is anything to go by, it’s one release that is quickly becoming highly anticipated.
