After a (at least artistic) lifetime writing songs and performing covers across her native Texas, Austin’s Tameca Jones has stepped up to the plate – duetting with Gary Clark Jr on his latest long player The Story of Sonny Boy Slim, and is about to release an EP of her own. Titled naked, its due out on September 23rd and from it she’s released a new single, Sandman.
If you like your soul in the good old fashioned Aretha-like way, minus the histrionics and full of the lived in authentic, then your going to love Tameca Jones. A good dose of organ gives it that gospel feel, as over the top Jones exacts a masterclass in soul as she soars and prods and pulls at your emotions. It’s late night, smoky bar room soul, and it sounds fantastic.
