Renowned for his dark and macabre yet humorous storytelling, ‘Born Against’ (2021) expanded ATD’s repertoire with romantic, philosophical and emotional narratives achieved without sacrificing the genre-bending style that has earned him critical acclaim and a passionate worldwide following. Harnessing world music alongside inspiration from master storytellers such as Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen plus contemporaries like Fiona Apple and Father John Misty, the album is packed with vivid, cinematic tales of flawed protagonists on songs full of beautifully haunting melodies embellished with crashes, clashes, clicks, clangs and stomps.

‘Born Against’ is the follow up to ATD’s 2018 debut, ‘Everything Is Fine’, which connected with fans of rock, folk, Americana, country, metal and more. Opening with the modern Americana classic ‘Cocaine And Abel’, it showed off Kiranos’ immense talent as an unflinching raconteur and emotive vocalist, while the album built on the promise of his first three EPs collected together as ‘Volume 1’ earlier that year.
