Amyl and the Sniffers just unleashed their latest single, ‘Big Dreams,’ a moody and unexpectedly introspective track off their forthcoming album Cartoon Darkness (dropping 25 October). It’s the fourth taste of the record, and it’s got the kind of grit that gets under your skin, even if the tempo has slowed down from their usual thrash-and-burn pace.

‘Big Dreams’ is about the passing of time, and seeing years go by with dreams feeling both closer and further from reality, and knowing you’re meant for something more then sitting around some crap apartment in a place you don’t want to be all life long. Wanting to get out and make something of yourself, but how hard that is to do especially when industries are kinda crumbling left right and centre. I got so many people in my life with so much talent, with or without audiences I just know they’re lit ones and when I see them do what they do nothing could take that away, and their relentless pursuit of something bigger is what this songs for, because what the f else are we gonna do. because the smaller you start the thinner you have to stretch yourself to be big, and that shouldn’t be under appreciated.’ Amyl and the Sniffers

The video, a single-shot desert odyssey by PHC Films, has an Easy Rider feel to it. ‘Big Dreams’ dials up a rockier vibe, a little more weight behind every chord, mirroring the song’s lyrical themes: a biting commentary on the cost of living crisis and the unraveling industries that once promised something better. It’s a snapshot of a world where survival feels like it’s hanging by a thread. And here, Amyl and the Sniffers capture the desperation in a way only they can—raw, unapologetic, and unflinchingly real.
