Del Amitri have announced that they’ll conclude their long-awaited UK tour with two hometown shows at Glasgow Barrowlands.

The Del Amitri lineup that performed to rapturous crowds in 2014 – Justin Currie (vocals, guitar), Iain Harvie (lead guitar), Andy Alston (keys), Kris Dollimore (guitar) and Ashley Soan (drums) – delighted fans when they announced that 2018 would see them return to the stage. Now the Scots chart-botherers have shared the news that the climax of this tour will be two nights at the revered Glasgow venue on the 28th and 29th July – the first time they have played there since 2002.

“In 1990, after eight years of slogging to build a Glasgow following, Del Amitri played Barralands for the first time,” says frontman Justin Currie. “It was as if everybody had turned up all at once. We’d never heard noise like it, never seen every hand raised and clapping on the snare beat, never been so overwhelmed by a crowd. It was the confirmation of our arrival in our own hometown. We did Barralands on every UK tour from then on. We did multiple nights, had Santa descend from the roof, covered Thin Lizzy and finally the Sex Pistols in the dark as we bowed out in 2002. We missed it madly on the reunion tour of 2014.”

The forthcoming tour will also see Del Amitri headline Edinburgh Castle for the first time in 25 years and a return to London’s Hammersmith Apollo – where they played a sold-out show in January 2014 on ‘The A To Z of Us Tour’, their first UK dates for more than a decade.

“We’re overjoyed to be able to announce our return to the greatest rock venue in the world,” says Currie, and Del Amitri fans all over the UK will undoubtedly share in the band’s delight.
