Dem Atlas releases the vibrant new album, FANTASY PKWY. Blending elements of atmospheric, shoegaze tinted rock, swelling ethereal electronics and hip-hop into a unique genre he calls ‘dream hop’.
Led by the radiant, dark and infectiously vibrant new single ‘Forlourn’, the album’s sound is personified in one of Dem Atlas’ stand outs from the album. Emotive vocals and poignant lyricism and beautiful instrumentation builds a soundscape that balances 70s rock aesthetic with a modern flare. Built around tight, crunching beats, reverb drenched guitars and driving bass, the track grows through it’s half sung, half-rapped verse to a radiant and ethereal chorus as washes of synth join the shoegaze influenced guitars.
Reflecting on the creation of ‘Forlourn’, Dem Atlas shares, “I spent 3 years suspended in reality, turning inward and cultivating a new sound that combines elements of Shoegaze and Hip-Hop to create my own little world to get lost in. If you’ve ever visited that terrifying and wondrous place alone at the crux of life & death, wondering to yourself if you’re awake or still asleep, this might resonate with you.”
Dem Atlas is not your typical rapper. His music is a reflection of a unique journey shaped by a childhood filled with introspection, which now manifests in his raw and vulnerable sound. His sonic tapestry is further enriched by bluesy undertones, jazzy improvisation, roaring guitars, and shimmering synthesizers which shine across the new album. Drawing from a diverse array of influences—ranging from ambient drone music and grunge to boom bap, trip-hop, and jazz—Dem Atlas crafts music that transcends conventional categorization.
