Cedric Burnside, grandson of the late, great Mississippi bluesman, RL Burnside (“Big Daddy”), has just released his latest single, Hill Country Love. Whilst steeped in the traditions of the hill country, Hill Country Love sees Burnside at his innovative best, fusing modern stylings and electric instrumentation with the traditional, albeit unconventional song structures and hypnotic grooves of a style dating back to the early days following the American Civil War.

There’s a lot to like about this new song from a man born into the blues, with the song telling of his absolute love for what he is doing. Ever grateful for the life he leads, Burnside explains “I’ve been traveling my whole life, and the song ‘Hill Country Love’ gave me a chance to let people know that I love what I do and give a sense of how we do it in Mississippi – like, the house party is a tradition here, Big Daddy threw a lot of them. So that’s what I was thinking about as I was writing that song – where I come from and also where I’m going, and how my journey has been to get to where I’m at now.”

The film clip below, shows and tells of the evolution of a typical day in the life of a hill country performer, with the famous house parties playing a central role in the tale.

The new track is also the title track to the new album, Hill Country Love (pictured below) which will be released on April 4, 2024 on LP, CD and digital download via Provogue Records, and can be pre-ordered here.
