News: LA’s Winter announces support on Hatchie’s Australian tour, a new album and unveils dreamy new single ‘atonement’ featuring Harriette Pilbeam (Hatchie) and Joe Agius (Rinse)

LA based artist Winter (Samira Winter) has just announced she will be supporting Brisbane’s magnificent Hatchie on her Australian tour and set a date for the release of her new album ‘What Kind of Blue Are You?’ on October 14. But the goodness does not end there: as a taste of what’s to come, Winter has also unveiled a spectacular new single ‘atonement’ featuring Hatchie (Harriette Pilbeam) and the legendary Joe Agius (Rinse) .

A muscular bass provides a fuzzy platform to chiming guitars and layered vocals creating the most ethereal harmonies with a liquid sensuality:

Fade into the colors
Your most desired pleasure
Do you seek atonement?
Can you wait forever?

The track is cloaked in mystery and intrigue – Winter says:

Every time I hear this song a new version of the story plays out in my head – an escape, a mystery, a forbidden love. By the time it reaches full climax there is a big reveal – the secret is out, the we discover who committed the crime, the two lovers find each other.

The result is something quite special: a woozy mélange of shimmering sounds: pure dream pop inflections coated with a shoegaze psychedelic gloss and sky-scraping melodies and choruses.

The collaboration with Pilbeam and Agius is a spectacular merger of talent: Hatchie and Rinse have released the most heartachingly beautiful materials over the past few years. Pilbeam says the track really wrote itself and was a lot of fun to make and Agius, who directed the video, adds:

The concept for the video immediately came to mind when working on the song together. The dark and talkative verses contrasting with the bubbly hopeful choruses really conveyed the kinda energy I wanted to translate.

The video features Winter and Plibeam bathing in a pale blue hue capering around the streets of LA with an infectious camaraderie: there is a great sense of freedom and joy that reflects the music.

‘atonement’ can be downloaded and streamed here.

In the meantime, ‘What Kind of Blue Are You’ is out on 14 October 2022 through Bar/None Records. You can pre-order here or through the link below:
