News: Mallrat announces Australian tour, a cover of Mazzy Star’s ‘Fade Into You’ and unveils a new video for the dreamy anthem ‘To You’.

Last year’s debut album from Mallrat, ‘Butterfly Blue’ (reviewed by me here), is a brilliant collection of pure unadulterated pop: shimmering glowing tracks that emit rays of golden sunshine. The album showcased Mallrat’s Grace Shaw’s beautiful vocals and poetry. A stunning debut. Her voice has the range and velvet tones of Dusty Springfield: soft and yet powerful in delivery.

Mallrat has just announced a welcome series of gigs in areas of Australia that often miss out on major tours as well as a future release of a cover of Mazzy Star’s iconic track ‘Fade Into You’, which will undoubtedly be magic. To whet the appetite though, Mallrat today unveils a video for the track ‘To You’ from ‘Butterfly Blue’.

‘To You’ is an atmospheric anthemic delight with a sky-scarping chorus edged with a melancholic sheen as Shaw expresses her vulnerability in love:

You make it a piece of cake
To just give you my heart to break
Know I’m somebody that you’d miss
I like the sound of this

Holding on to you
Holding on to you
It’s all I want to do
Holding on to you

The video is whirlwind of blurred images and psychedelic colours following Shaw around in a sort of convivial and bucolic bliss with her friends and in her unique style:

‘To You’ is available to download and stream here while ‘Butterfly Blue’ is available here. Mallrat’s cover of the exquisite ‘Fade Into You is out this Friday and can be preordered here.

Mallrat’s tour is being described as a regional tour but I am not sure the State and Territory capitols of Hobart (Sandy Bay), Canberra and Darwin would be pleased at being included in this description – but it is nonetheless a very welcomed tour of areas that often miss out on national tours. The dates are as follows with more details and tickets available here:

10 Nov – Mayberry Darwin, Darwin, NT (18+)

17 Nov – Magnums, Airlie Beach, QLD (18+)

18 Nov – Gilligan’s, Cairns, QLD (18+)

19 Nov – JCU Uni Bar, Townsville, QLD (18+)

26 Nov – Spilt Milk, Canberra, ACT

3 Dec – Spilt Milk, Ballrat, VIC

4 Dec – Spilt Milk, Gold Coast, QLD

31 Dec – Hobart UniBar, Sandy Bay, TAS (18+)
