News: Melbourne’s masters of fuzz, The Silversound are back with exciting new EP

Melbourne psychedelic supergroup, The Silversound, have re-convened after a short break, re-set their effects pedals, turned the fuzz up to 11, and added to their 2023 recorded haul with the release of new EP, Fuzz Box Girl, a tasty book-end to their March debut, self-titled album.

The EP, while obviously a vehicle for the title track, Fuzz Box Girl, also adds four other fantastic tracks to the band’s catalogue including a sublime cover version of Donovan’s 60’s classic, Hurdy Gurdy Man with Lisa Miller taking over the lead vocal duties from Andrew Tanner. This follows on from the opening title track, a song of jaunty thanks-giving to the humble musical effects pedal, the fuzz-box, upon which its’ sound is based.

The band have continued to paint broad brushstrokes across the breadth of the psychedelic sound on this EP, with the third track, The Honeyeater wistfully playing across a delightfully intricate melody, while Pallene, the fourth track, takes the listener on an instrumental interstellar trip across its’ near-six minute length.

The EP rounds out with an acoustic, Eastern-tinged version of Sunn Raga, the brilliant opening track from their debut album, with this version being recorded live in the studios of independent Melbourne radio station, 3RRR.

Fuzz Box Girl sees the The Silversound expand their psychedelic palette, and pays testament to the longevity of not only the style of music that they are so wonderfully keeping alive, but also to their creative edge. The members of The Silversound have all paid their dues over the years, and go to prove the adage that creativity knows no age. Given the prolific song-writing capacity that exists amongst the main protagonists within the band, this leaves us wondering, rather excitedly, where this band will head to next.

Fuzz Box Girl is out now on Cheersquad Records, and can be heard, and purchased from the labels Bandcamp shop here.

The Silversound are playing a matinee EP launch show at The Brunswick Ballroom on Sunday, 3rd December, with doors open from 1.00 P.M. Tickets can be purchased here from Moshtix.
