News: Reading and Leeds Festival announce first acts for 2022

What better way to cure the December blues than with a summer festival line-up announcement; and Reading and Leeds have absolutely pulled it out of the bag with their first release of artists for 2022.

Following on from R&L ’21, the festival is sticking with six headliners with no clash between the top billed artists. Rock legends Rage Against the Machine are billed opposite American pop superstar Halsey, who is making her second appearance at the festival. RATM were meant to headline in 2020 but a little thing called Covid got in the way and fans should expect a hugely politically charged set if their legendary set in 2008 is anything to go by.

Following on from the success of Stormzy’s set in 2021, the festival have chosen Dave and Megan Thee Stallion who will headline the Friday at Reading and Saturday in Leeds. Each year, the festival is making steps to showcase different styles of artists and finally there is a female headliner, props to Festival Republic for this … it’s about time!

The final day is a big Sheffield love-in with both Bring Me The Horizon and Arctic Monkeys headlining the Sunday at Bramham Park (and Saturday at Reading). Arctic Monkeys have previously headlined the festival twice so the crowds will be used to their huge stage presence and lets face it, absolute JAMS. But here at Backseat Mafia, we are excited to see how BMTH step up to the challenge of headlining their first major UK festival. Two of the steel city’s finest exports are sure to close the festival with a bang!

Some other notable mentions on the lineup are Eurovision 2021 winners Maneskin, who are making their UK festival debut at R&L ’22, indie legends Wolf Alice, R&L rock veterans Enter Shikari and TikTok star Jxdn.

Reading and Leeds Festival will be held from August 26th to 28th,, 2022 at Bramham Park, Leeds and Richfield Avenue, Reading.

Tickets are on sale, now.
