News: Tasmanian post-punk duo, Mankind, release latest single, the deeply reflective ‘Home’

Enigmatic Tasmanian goth-rock/post-punk duo, Mankind, has unleashed their latest sonic creation – the brooding single ‘Home‘.

With a sound characterized by sometimes-dark, yet melodic basslines and hypnotic drum beats, Mankind explores the profound human quest for identity and belonging in their newest release.

‘Home‘ serves as a poignant ode to the essence of humanity, delving into the universal yearning for belonging, whether it’s finding solace in a place, a person, or a purpose. The track showcases Mankind’s ability to blend atmospheric soundscapes with introspective lyrics that resonate deeply with listeners. Dan Cooper’s vocal shows a fragility which is not always present in the band’s other material, and which mirrors the lyric content of ‘Home’. The track is punctuated with the metronomic stick work of Tenille Johnstone on drums, which provides the song with a grounding rhythm reminiscent of many of the early 80’s classic post-punk bands, fitting in nicely with the growing resurgence of the post-punk styles.

“We wanted ‘Home’ to capture that raw emotion of searching for where we truly belong,” says Dan, the band’s bassist and vocalist. “It’s about embracing our human nature and the journey to find our place in the world.”

Following the release of ‘Home’, Mankind is embarking on a highly anticipated nine-date Tasmanian tour. Renowned for their electrifying energy, immersive visuals and engaging stage presence, this tour promises an unforgettable experience for fans of goth-rock, post-punk, and alternative music.

“Our live shows are an extension of our music—intense, raw, and emotionally charged,” adds Dan. “We can’t wait to share this journey with our audience and connect with them through our music.”

‘Home’ was produced by Scott Mainwaring Music and mastered at King Willy Sound.

“Home” is available from Friday July 5th for streaming on all major platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube.
