News: The Cult Kicks Off Australia Tour With National Support Act Mayatrix & The Psychics

The Cult’s return to Australia is already shaping up to be something special. Kicking off their tour in Naarm/Melbourne tonight, the legendary British rockers will play six dates across the country, including a night at the iconic Sydney Opera House. As if their timeless blend of post-punk and hard rock wasn’t enough, they’ve enlisted Boorloo/Perth’s Mayatrix & The Psychics as their national support act.

For Mayatrix & The Psychics, the invitation is more than just a milestone, it’s a moment to showcase their enchanting sound to audiences far beyond their underground beginnings. Fronted by Māori-Australian artist Moana Mayatrix, the band is known for creating hypnotic, genre-defying music that fuses industrial rock, trip-hop, and psychedelia into something entirely their own.

“To tour Australia playing venues like these with a band as iconic as The Cult is literally a dream come true for us!” Moana shared. “It’s surreal. We’ve been dedicated to our art and working hard in the underground for a while now and are just so excited to share our magic to the country and get on those stages and go nuts! It’s a true blessing to be invited to this experience and something we’ll treasure for the rest of our lives.“

The tour also offers a chance to revisit The Cult’s enduring legacy. With hits like ‘She Sells Sanctuary’ and ‘Fire Woman’, the band has been a driving force in rock music for over four decades. Their latest album, ‘Under the Midnight Sun’, adds to their storied catalogue and promises to shine on stage.

For Mayatrix & The Psychics, who recently supported Indonesia’s groundbreaking metal act Voice of Baceprot (Read Deborah Pelser’s coverage of VoB’s performance at SXSW Sydney last month), the timing couldn’t be better. Their latest single, ‘Black Moon Medicine’, is a brooding, sensual anthem that captures their bold sound.

Whether you’re a diehard Cult fan or curious to see one of Australia’s most dynamic rising acts, this tour offers something truly unique and shouldn’t be missed.
