Thurston Moore has announced that he will be headlining a guerrilla show, in support of Pussy Riot, at London’s Village Underground tonight. Moore is billed to appear along with his band, which includes among its ranks My Bloody Valentine’s former bass player, Debbie Googe. Explaining his support for the Pussy Riot cause, Moore stated that: “It is an honour to participate with Pussy Riot on this event today – they’re one of the most radical and uncompromising movements of punk.”
The event serves to promote Zona.Media, a non-governmental organisation set up by Maria Alyokhina and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova – both members of Pussy Riot – following their release from prison. The project champions media freedom and offers a support network for political prisoners in Russia. Tonight’s show will also feature performances by The Jack Wood (Tomsk) and Scofferlane (Moscow), as well as a public talk on Zona.Media by Alyokhina.
