We’re not quite used to heat waves here in the north of England, so when we get one, like today (the hottest July day on record, apparently) we get all giddy, kicking back in the garden and drinking beer. I’m sat between work and work, in a supermarket cafe (with no air conditioning) so I’m romanticising more than a little.
What’s helping is listening to Show Me Islands, taken from the Portland Oregon six-piece’s forthcoming Heatwave EP (it had to be didn’t it?). Beginning with tropical sound effects, it swaggers into this hazy pop gem, Danielle Sullivans vocal draped beautifully over the woozy guitars. It spreads its wings in the chorus, delivering sugary singalong moments as it goes.
Let me just kick back in my swimming gear with a beer. Oh, hang on…..
