Los Angeles–born composer, songwriter, and vocalist Vera Weber is making waves internationally, thanks in large part to her breakout song ‘Rosebud’ from Netflix’s German thriller Woman of the Dead (Die Totenfrau), Season 2. The track has earned her recognition alongside some of the world’s biggest music names, cementing her growing reputation in both European and American media.
In November 2025, Weber received a Hollywood Music in Media Awards (HMMA) nomination for Best Song in a Limited Series for ‘Rosebud’. The category included global superstars such as Lady Gaga, Evanescence, and Twenty One Pilots. While Lady Gaga ultimately took home the award, Weber’s nomination stood out as a surprise underdog success, drawing international attention to her distinctive songwriting and vocal style.
Released via Milan Records (Sony Music France), ‘Rosebud’ was written and performed by Weber, with composition co-credited to her longtime collaborator Caleb Veazey. The song serves as a powerful queer anthem in the series, written for a trans character portrayed by trans actress Hayal Kaya, who also performs a cover of the track in a pivotal on-screen scene. Weber composed three original songs for the series, all included on the official soundtrack, with ‘Rosebud’ emerging as the centerpiece and a defining highlight of her work.
Weber’s career momentum continues into 2026. She is nominated at the German Television Academy Awards (Deutsche Akademie für Fernsehen) for Best Original Score in a TV Film for Die Stille Am Ende der Nacht (The Stillness at the End of the Night), co-composed with acclaimed composer Matthias Weber. The score has drawn praise for its inventive integration of Weber’s vocals into suspense-driven, techno- and pop-infused arrangements.
Earlier, Weber was also recognized at Televisionale Weimar (December 2025) for Best Film Music in a TV Film or Series for Ewig Dein (Forever Yours), directed by Berlinale Golden Bear nominee Johanna Moder. These nominations reflect her growing influence on Europe’s television music landscape.
Alongside her award recognition, Weber is releasing new music tied to the upcoming ZDF Neo series Take the Money and Run, produced by pyjama pictures GmbH. The end-title song ‘Satan’s Advice’, releasing January 3, was written for the series and inspired by the life and downfall of Ruja Ignatova, the infamous Bulgarian-German “Cryptoqueen.” The track also marks the debut of Weber’s indie-pop project Candy as a Nun, co-created with guitarist/composer Caleb Veazey, with Weber performing lead vocals.
Weber’s style blends cinematic scoring with contemporary popular music, using layered vocals, strings, choir, synths, guitars, percussion, and experimental textures. Critics have compared her work to Mica Levi, Hildur Guðnadóttir, Jonny Greenwood, and Cristóbal Tapia de Veer, while her songwriting evokes artists such as Sharon Van Etten, Beach House, and Billie Eilish.
Based in Los Angeles but with deep professional roots in Germany and Austria, Vera Weber is solidifying her international presence. Yet it is ‘Rosebud’—a song that bridges cultural, emotional, and musical boundaries—that continues to define her as an artist to watch.
