We are very honoured to premiere the new single from Osaka’s HYPER GAL, a two-piece band consisting of visual artist Koharu Ishida on vocals and noise artist Kurumi Kadoya on drums. ‘dot dot dot’ precedes the release of the duo’s album ‘After Image’ on 13 September 2024 via SKiN GRAFT Records and an UK/European tour on October and November.

‘dot dot dot’ is a blistering wall of sound with dissonant distance vocals chanting over an incessant rumble of drums and an organ base, rolling along like an out of control freight train. It has the enigma of something by Sonic Youth mixed in the with the day-glo pop vibrancy of fellow compatriots Shonen Knife and an element of experimental industrial/noise of Einstürzende Neubauten. The band says of the track:

Unusually for a HYPER GAL song, there are two types of effects on the vocals. Gradually amplifying noise and prose-poetic lyrics describe the blurring.’dot dot dot’ is HYPER GAL’s interpretation of what shoegaze is.

Indeed, a shoegaze buzz further buoys the track, giving it a cool insouciance. The song ends abruptly in a cataclysmic field of feedback and decay: it really is the most dynamic piece of hyperkinetic industrial pop fuzz:

The single comes off HYPER GAL’s new album ‘After Image’ which is due out on 13 September 2024 – you can pre-order it through the link below:

HYPER GAL is touring the album across the UK and Europe in October and November – the dates are below and you can get tickets here, with an album launch in Osaka on 14 September at Bears.
