Steven Young‘s distinctive sonorous and velvet vocals add a vibrant lustre to his new single ‘Delirious World’, which we are honoured to premiere today.

Young began his career in The Imagineers, moving on to GANGS before going solo with earlier single ‘Chains’. His second solo release ‘Delirious World’ is a vibrant post punk thrill: reverberated scything guitars and frenetic vocals create a dark and mysterious atmosphere that has echoes of bands as diverse as Magazine, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and Johnny Marr. A rockabilly lilt adds a touch of Chris Isaak.

Young sings with fervour like a proselytising preacher, full of sound and fury with lyrics that are redemptive and powerful:

I fell in love, found a place deep down
I faced my demons and I got away, deep down, found the truth in a mysterious way
I found the truth in a mysterious way, I fell in love, I fell in love, I fell in love, I fell in love

Young says of the track and the accompanying video:

The song is about opening your horizons, ego death, and somehow coming out the other end healed in some way. We decided to go with a bleak, noir vibe to the video in order to fit the spooky, melancholic mood of the song, and I think the visuals work perfectly with the atmosphere were trying to create.

The result is something both energising and gothic dark. The video, directed by Connaire McCann, The Savage Purge Productions, mixes monochromatic scenes of dramatic landscapes with a dynamic performance against a neon lit urban landscape: swiftly moving and restless like the song.

‘Delirious World’ is out on 9 February 2022 via Freq House Records and available through all the usual download and streaming sites. Young will be launching the single at the legendary King Tut’s Wah Wah House in Glasgow on 19 February 2022 – full details and tickets here.
