Premiere: The Vors raise their profile with the blistering single ‘Hi Vis Low Res’, with debut album and live dates on the way

We are very pleased to premiere the zany new punk pop single ‘Hi Vis Low Res’ from Eora/Sydney band The Vors, which has all the heat and blistering effects of a footpath baking in the hot summer sun. With a sound that recalls The Chats or Amyl and the Sniffers, it’s a thrilling surf ride on a plank of guitars that is a example of that unique antipodean self-deprecatory sense humour: a paean to indolence and lethargy brought on by the humidity and desire for the weekend we all know so well down under.

Of course the title refers to that trademark uniform of the trades people and construction workers around the world – the high visibility vest – which has the unique effect of enhancing testosterone regardless of gender. And such is its ubiquity, wearers just became part of an anonymous crowd of faceless beings who get things done.

Written by singer Davor Pavlovic, the song combines societal themes and personal experience, as he explains:

I wrote the song after a lifetime spent in commercial construction, where I would drag myself into the city at 5am, along with thousands of other tradies, lost in a sea of Hi Vis.

Dressed to be seen on the job site but with everyone wearing the same thing, you just seem to become part of the blur, less visible. I hated it, and I did it, but I dreamt of the weekend. Everyone dreamed of the weekend and those that didn’t, they were full of shit.

It’s an interesting industry. It accepts people who have dropped out of school, have no education, just out of jail, travelling, and can’t speak English. For a lot of people, it’s all they can do, so in part, they are trapped and are forced to find ways to entertain themselves during their working day.

This charming candour bleeds into every note of the track: a punk barrage leavened by humour and melody and seemingly drawing inspiration from other songs with a sly wink. Every note shouts a louche, larrikin stance that could only be born from the bleached, sand encrusted suburbs of Bondi:

Listen to it with a cold brew, a pair of flip flops and boardies with sunscreen applied liberally to the nose. ‘Hi Vis Low Res’ is out on Thursday, 29 May through the legendary CheerSquad Records & Tapes through the link above and all the usual sites, and you can catch The Vors plying their trade (maybe even in the eponymous hi vis vest, but definitely in high resolution) on the dates below:

Saturday, 31 May @ The Golden Barley, Enmore NSW w/ Fait Accompli, Blood Thinners

Friday. 13 June @ Town Hall Hotel, North Melbourne VIC w/ The Lips

Saturday, 14 June @ The Beast, Brunswick East VIC w/ Shelley’s Motor Club

Sunday, 15 June @ The Tote, Collingwood VIC w/ The Jalopies

Friday, 27 June @ The Beach Rd Hotel, Bondi NSW
