It’s been a good while since we’ve heard much from Peter Salett; with his most recent album Addicted to Distraction turning 15 in August, he’s mostly kept his head down since then when it comes to recorded music. That all changes in July when he releases not one, but two follow-ups simultaneously. The seeds of Suite for the Summer Rain were planted merely a year after its predecessor, with Dance of the Yellow Leaf taking shape 3 years later in 2014.
Both albums are ready to go, with Salett sharing ‘Suddenly the Leaves’ up front of its release as Yellow Leaf‘s second single tomorrow. It goes back to the very beginning of the album project, a gorgeous, tender, folk-inflected song backed by sumptuous strings, it’s a further peek into the world created by this pair of albums, with Salett saying of the song: “The line “suddenly the leaves are on the ground / no one seemed to see them coming down” came to me as I rounded the corner coming home one day, and it was as if the season had snuck up on me and I was somehow, suddenly, in a different place. I also sing about “holding on to beauty as it burns/so bright” and the knowledge that despite our best efforts time will keep moving, both giving us distance from emotional scars but also that whatever we love in the moment is ephemeral. This was the first song I wrote for what became Dance of the Yellow Leaf.”
‘Suddenly the Leaves’ is out everywhere at midnight; both Dance of the Yellow Leaf & Suite for the Summer Rain land on Friday July 11th via Dusty Shores.
