We are honoured to exclusively premiere the video for the track ‘Shakespeare Always’ from Melbourne power pop icons Icecream Hands on the eve of the release of their new EP ‘Pineapple Pieces’, a four-track companion EP to their ARIA-charting 2025 album ‘Giant Fox Pineapple Tree.’

‘Shakespeare Always’ launches with crystalline guitars with more crunch than a Violet Crumble and a melody just as sweet with its harmonious backing vocals and studied delivery. A delicate piano riff etches contrails in the sky and surprising little switches in pace, at the beginning, middle and end, create an ebb and flow to the delicious power pop. It’s an anthemic and dramatic track that positively glitters with joy.

The video showcases the band’s ability to craft melodic sonic jewels tinged by a sense of humour, filmed by Sunday Marsden, and created by the band’s drummer Derek G Smiley – fittingly capturing the band’s humour and charm in bucolic surroundings.

The track is off the band’s EP, out tomorrow and follows the release of their album ‘Giant Fox Pineapple Tree’ last year. The tracks were recoded at the album sessions, but ultimately didn’t make the final album. Charles Jenkins from the band says:

There came a point where we simply had to make the call. We had more songs than would comfortably fit on the album, and these four were reluctantly left behind. It soon became obvious they deserved their own release.

Douglas Lee Robertson adds:

We never thought of these as leftovers. They’re part of the same story. This EP feels like finding the missing pieces of a puzzle we thought we’d already finished.

You can pre-order the EP through the link below.

The EP celebrations continue next month with an intimate acoustic launch performance at Kew Court House on Friday 4 September, where the band will perform songs from Pineapple Pieces alongside favourites from across their catalogue. Tickets are on sale now.

Fans who don’t want to wait until September to hear the new songs live can see Icecream Hands tomorrow night, 7 August, supporting the Huxton Creepers at Sooki Lounge – and the night after, 8 August, at the Croxton Bandroom. Final tickets for both shows are still available.
