News: MUNA announce exclusive Melbourne headline show for February 2027

California indie-pop favourites MUNA are heading back Down Under, announcing an exclusive Melbourne headline show at the Forum on Monday 15 February 2027 as part of their Gets So Hot Tour.

The trio, Katie Gavin, Naomi McPherson and Josette Maskin, will also appear at Laneway Festival 2027, but the Forum date marks their first-ever Melbourne headline performance.

It’s been a remarkable rise for a band that has turned emotionally candid songwriting, infectious synth-pop and unapologetically queer storytelling into an international success story.

Australian audiences are already familiar with MUNA’s live credentials. The band supported Lorde on her Solar Power tour in 2023, appeared alongside Kim Petras and G Flip at Sydney WorldPride and played their own headline show at Sydney’s Metro Theatre.

Internationally, they’ve shared stages with some of pop’s biggest names, including Taylor Swift on the Eras Tour, Harry Styles, Phoebe Bridgers and boygenius. Their 2022 single Silk Chiffon became a queer pop anthem, helping introduce the band to an audience well beyond their indie beginnings.

Now MUNA are entering another chapter with their fourth album, Dancing On The Wall, a record that trades some of the carefree exuberance of their 2022 self-titled release for something darker and more politically aware.

Produced by McPherson, with contributions from Maskin, the album confronts the anxieties of contemporary life in Los Angeles, from political unrest and environmental concerns to the financial uncertainty facing a generation trying to find its footing.

But MUNA haven’t abandoned their talent for a killer pop hook. Singles Dancing On The Wall, Eastside Girls, Wannabeher and So What pair sharp observations with the euphoric melodies that have become their calling card.

Beyond the music, the trio have also developed a devoted following through their weekly podcast Gayotic, where their chaotic humour and candid conversations offer another glimpse into the personalities behind the songs.

With Laneway Festival bringing MUNA back to Australia alongside Fontaines D.C., The Hayley Williams Show, Kim Petras and Rico Nasty, Melbourne fans have an additional opportunity to experience the band away from the festival circuit.

And for a group whose songs turn heartbreak, uncertainty and queer joy into communal singalongs, the Forum should provide a fitting setting.

MUNA play Melbourne’s Forum on Monday 15 February 2027.

Frontier Members presale begins Thursday 5 November at 12pm AEDT, with general tickets on sale Friday 6 November at 1pm AEDT.
