The boy Gedge and current Wedding Present line-up are preparing for the release of a new single, their first new material since 2017, on August 2nd, via Come Play With Me. The two track record – The Water’s Fine’ and ‘Panama’, and is available on 7” and limited edition 10” picture disc (a first for the band, even after all these years) and comes with artwork from former Hefner main man Darren Hayman.

The a-side blasts into life with this insistent guitar line, played with the bands new guitarist (and former bassline) Danielle Wadey, as she pulls the band close to sort of Feeder territory, muscular and driven but essentially always catchy. Of the track, Gedge says “Danielle came up with the solo bass part after I said I wanted to do a song that was ‘bass-driven’ and it just got fatter and heavier! We also now have three vocalists in the band so we used the opportunity to experiment with some a cappella singing, too,”

Over the top, Gedge, that indie pop laureate, delivers his usual lovelorn/lovestruck (this time the latter) lines, straight to the heart. Check it out, here

The Wedding Present will be performing a series of 30th anniversary ‘Bizarro’ shows across the UK, Europe and Asia in 2019 in celebration of the band’s major label debut album.
