Five years in and Long Division festival in Wakefield has become as much a part of the festival season as any of the offerings its big city rival, Leeds, can offer.

80+ bands – three days – eight city centre venues ! It’s a winning formula with an ever impressive line up ranging from the well established (such as Ash and British Sea Power) to the best in upcoming local talent.

Long Division still manages to keep to it’s roots, and despite bigger bands and bigger venues, maintains the DIY ethic and has helped put Wakefield well and truly back on the musical map. A mix of old, new and the rejuvenated and all within very easy walking distance of each other,  Wakefield’s largest performance space Unity Hall, to local bars The Hop and Players as well as The Theatre Royal, Orangery and 18th Century Westgate Chapel the venues are as varied as the line up.

Dean Freeman, Long Division Founder:
“It’s hard to believe it’s five years since I started Long Division. Wakefield has come a long way in that time. The thing that excites me most about Long Division is that it still excites me. It’s still so much fun to organise, and to see and hear such amazing bands in my hometown. And then to meet people from all over the country who have traveled here and are having such a great time. I’ve just got back from a trip meeting the big artist booking agents in London; they all know about Wakefield now, because of this festival. I’m so pleased to have Ash play in Wakefield. Although they are seen as a guitar band, I think they are one of the best pop bands ever. Tim Wheeler writes amazing, classic pop songs. Long Division has always been about true Indie music, the alternative, the DIY. I think Ash embody that, it just so happens they have some of the catchiest songs ever! To see and hear the sing-alongs in Unity Works will be amazing. And yet, they are only the tip of the iceberg for a line-up with over 80 bands.”

We’re personally looking forward to seeing British Sea Power perform a greatest hits set on Friday night and catching up with Saturdays headliners Ash, as well as Pulled Apart By Horses and The Fat White Family.

Other bands you don’t want to miss include Menace Beach, Incredible Magpie Band, Kleine Schweine, Allusondrugs, Molars and Hands Off Gretel, infact looking at the full line up it’s not definitely not going to disappoint no matter where you go or who you see.

So without further ado, get your plans sorted and get over to Wakefield for what promises to be one hell of a weekend!

Tickets:
Friday – British Sea Power & More  – Unity Works – £15
Saturday – 80 bands + – £25 wristband
Sunday – Special live recording album session with The Ainsley Band in association with Greenmount Studios (The Cribs, Pulled Apart By Horses)  – £5 to watch live
