See: METZ become Kings of the Road with “Sugar Pill.”

Say what you will about METZ, the noisy Canadian post-punk three-piece currently signed to Sub Pop Records, but they are consistent. They have been across four studio albums now – Atlas Vending their most recent, critically acclaimed work.

Stemming from that album, the group have released their latest video from the 2020 release, “Sugar Pill.”

Given the hardcore punk aspects of METZ (and if you’ve seen them hawking their merchandise at live shows, you appreciate their commitment even more), it doesn’t seem too far removed for “Sugar Pill” to feature skateboarding.

METZ may even one day feature in a Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater soundtrack – which very much influenced a generation of music fans. Or Skate if you’re more inclined towards Electronic Arts’ series.

“Skateboarding feels great. We love to skate. The birds need to sing, we need to skate. I hope the winter skateboarding footage carries with it some of the love we have for skateboarding” director Shayne Ehman explains.

“I hope [the video] contains a spirit of perseverance and the will to make it happen. Come wind, ice, or stormy weather, we shovel snow, we torch frost, we skate.”

Atlas Vending is available now through Sub Pop Records.

I write words that sometimes make sense and other times don't. But perhaps in either case that will evoke some form of emotion about what I am writing. Or maybe not.
