I MEAN, it’s just isn’t stopping, is it, this viral ice age that has a grip on our music scene; but at least musicians are out there creating, bringing us new aural joy to keep us going through the grind.

And at the forefront of all that are indie legends and darlings in equal proportion, The Wedding Present, who’ve been toiling away, sharing ideas and coming up with a new album for our (absolute) pleasure, Locked Down And Stripped Back, out at the end of next month.

Released on February 26th on Scopitones, Locked Down And Stripped Back comprises a dozen home recordings of old faves alongside two previously unreleased songs: and concerning us today is the first of these, “We Should Be Together”, originally recorded but never released by Sleeper.

And now, finally, its time has come, with each part recorded and filmed at home, The Weddoes have brought it out, dusted it down and show what a boy-girl cracker it is – especially with Louise Wener her very self joining the crew to realise that vocal sweetness. Have a watch below.

David Gedge says: “When Sleeper guitarist Jon Stewart joined The Wedding Present in 2019 he played me the track and I thought immediately that it was too good not to be used in some way; so we decided to cover it for our Locked Down And Stripped Back semi-acoustic album.

“The icing on the cake came when Louise Wener herself agreed to sing on this new Wedding Present ‘duet’ version of her old song!”

Locked Down And Stripped Back looks like a proper treat for the Wedding Present fan, containing as it does at-home rerubs of classics such as “A Million Miles”, “California”, “You Should Always Keep In Touch With Your Friends” and “My Favourite Dress”.

The Wedding Present’s Locked Down And Stripped Back will be released by Scopitones digitally, on CD, trad black vinyl and deluxe neon orange vinyl on February 26th; Rough Trade are a good bet for a pre-order.
